Alfredo Gonzalez joined VISIT FLORIDA in January 2015 as the Vice President of International Sales & Market Development. VISIT FLORIDA is the state’s official tourism marketing corporation which serves as Florida’s official source for travel planning to visitors across the globe. VISIT FLORIDA is a not-for-profit corporation created as a public/private partnership by the Florida Legislature in 1996. In this role, Alfredo is responsible for promoting Florida as a premier travel destination by expanding Florida’s international presence, travel trade outreach, VISIT FLORIDA’s meetings and event initiatives as well as developing co-operative partnership programs with international trade and media partners.

Prior to joining VISIT FLORIDA, Alfredo spent two years as the Senior Vice President of Global Market Development for Brand USA where he was responsible for promoting travel on a national level by driving tourism to the United States. While at Brand USA, Alfredo was responsible for launching the United States’ first ever nationally coordinated tourism marketing effort to increase international visitation to the United States.




Carmen N. Portela is an Integrated Marketing Consultant specializing in the areas of travel & tourism, lifestyle and sports. Portela started her consulting services in 2009 after a thriving career in the public sector.     

Ms. Portela is an expert in social media, media relations, communications and special events. Previously she worked for the Puerto Rico Tourism (PRTC) for 6 years where she held different positions until she was promoted to Public Relations Director. While working in PRTC she coordinated more than 600 press trips that generated numerous press leads and stories for PR in International newspapers and magazines. She also lead the logistics for filming TV shows like: Top Chef, Travel Channel Best of, ABC’s The Bachelorette, Food Networks Dinner Impossible among others. The most significant special events that she coordinated were the Puerto Rico Week in NYC during The 2007 Latin Grammy’s and a Puerto Rico Pop-Up Store that traveled through the primary markets of the island in the US: NY in Grand Central Station, Boston in Fenway Park, Chicago in The Shops at Northbridge and LA in The Glendale Galleria. Before her career in Tourism, Carmen worked as a Department Sales Manager at Macy’s. She holds a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Puerto Rico.     

On 2010 Portela, created the boutique social agency Synapse Social Media, LLC to help companies develop their Social Media Strategy & create brand awareness in Social Networks.

Rico Louw is an Account and Customer Manager for STR (STR, Inc.). He joined STR in 2015 and is responsible for maintaining positive relationships and services between STR and corporate clients, with a deep understanding of the data received and reports generated by STR. He has also been featured as a guest speaker, especially in the markets of Mexico and the Caribbean islands.He obtained his Degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from the University of Hospitality in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, where he lived for more than 30 years, allowing him to directly experience the tourism industry. He currently resides in Hendersonville, TN, USA.
